Handling a 2
Year Erection
!

|
Background
Bucyrus Australia was faced with the challenge
of developing and implementing a “project based” site
induction, as they commenced the erection of their 8750
Dragline. At time of writing, this dragline is the 2nd largest
walking dragline in the world, with an approximate 2 year
project period.
The client approached Smart HR Solutions (SHS)
to discuss options for a short to medium term solution
that:
-
Must present a professional image of the company as
this is one of the first points of contact with the
workforce.
-
Can be implemented in a group situation when
required.
-
Can be delivered on an individual basis as needed.
-
Must run just as successfully in a totally isolated
and remote location as it does in town.
-
Must be ready to go in a few weeks!!
The Solution
The solution we developed and delivered in record time was
to create the Site Induction (including assessment) in an
electronic format, and run it in its entirety from a CD Rom.
The induction session could be run on a laptop computer in
conjunction with a data projector for a trainer lead, group
session, or as a self paced individual session on the
computer.
Smart HR Solutions supplied manual assessment papers
for the group sessions, whilst individual sessions are assessed
on the screen. As there was no requirement for a database, SHS
built into the induction a system generated certificate to be
retained as training evidence. This certificate can only be
issued by either the trainer of the group session, or by the
system in an individual session once all requirements have been
met.
The Result
The success in this case was due to SHS’s ability to merge
the client’s requirements with our ability to drive the project
to meet its goals, based on a total trust relationship.
We take pride in knowing we have contributed to the
second biggest erection in the world!!
